Moscow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going on a visit to Russia next week. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Russian President’s office Kremlin said that the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Russia is very important. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin will discuss regional and global security, bilateral relations and trade. The Kremlin had said earlier this year that Prime Minister Modi has an open invitation to visit Russia. Moscow described India as an old friend of Russia and said that Russia has special privileged and strategic partnership relations with New Delhi.

What did the senior Russian diplomat say

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on Monday, “We have a special privileged and strategic partnership relationship with India. India is an old friend of Russia. We cooperate in many areas and I think this will be a concrete dialogue on all the issues on which our countries cooperate.”

India-Russia relations will become stronger

Nebenzya had said that this will send serious messages in the form of joint documents. “I hope that Russian-Indian relations will improve even more,” the ambassador said. This visit will be Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to Russia in nearly five years. His last visit was in 2019 for an economic conference in Vladivostok. Although there has been no official confirmation from India, a Kremlin official said preparations were underway.

PM Modi may visit Russia on 8 July

President Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed that they are preparing for the visit but did not give dates. Diplomatic sources suggest the visit could take place around July 8, though the date is yet to be finalised. If Modi visits Russia, he and Putin will hold the India-Russia annual summit, which has not taken place for the last three years. The summit is an important dialogue mechanism in the strategic partnership between the two countries, with 21 summits so far being held alternately in India and Russia.
