Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the PM Vishwakarma scheme today at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, Delhi. The scheme aims to provide support to 18 types of traditional artisans and handicraft makers. Recognizing the importance of uplifting these beneficiaries, PM Modi emphasized the imperative of the hour during the event.

The PM Vishwakarma scheme was initially announced during PM Modi’s speech at the Red Fort on August 15, and it received an approval of Rs 13,000 crore in the Union Cabinet meeting held on August 16. Coinciding with Vishwakarma Jayanti, the scheme’s inauguration resonated with the significance of the occasion.

During the event, Prime Minister Modi awarded Vishwakarma certificates to various artists and artisans. In his address, he expressed that the scheme aims to bring hope to artisans and artists, and the government plans to invest Rs.13,000 crores towards its implementation. He emphasized the importance of recognizing and supporting the project beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries of the Vishwakarma scheme will receive technical training in operating modern equipment. Moreover, a stipend of Rs.500 will be provided during the training period to facilitate their skill development.

As part of the initiative, the Yasobhoomi International Exhibition Center was dedicated to India. This center will serve as a vibrant hub for Indian arts and crafts, helping them reach a global level. It aims to promote local products on an international scale.

On the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti, Prime Minister Modi extended his greetings to the people of the country. He emphasized that the Bharat Mandapam and Yasobhoomi will make Delhi the largest hub for convention tourism.

The Vishwakarma scheme will provide beneficiaries with a Vishwakarma Certificate and Identity Card. Participants will also receive training for skill development and a stipend of Rs.500 per day. Additionally, an incentive of Rs.15,000 will be given to purchase industrial equipment. The scheme also offers interest-free loans up to Rs.1 lakh as the first installment and up to Rs.2 lakh with 5% interest as the second installment.

The central government has designated the Vishwakarma scheme to be effective for five years, from 2023 to 2028. Its implementation will benefit carpenters, boat makers, armourers, blacksmiths, basket and mat makers, coir weavers, toy makers, goldsmiths, potters, colony workers, hammer and tool set makers, stone carvers, sculptor makers, stone breakers, hairdressers, flower garland makers, washermen, tailors, and fishing net makers.

In a separate event, Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated the extension of the Airport Metro Express line at Delhi’s Yashobhumi Dwarka Metro Station. He interacted with metro employees and traveled in the Delhi Metro, with passengers capturing memorable selfies with him.

Furthermore, PM Modi inaugurated the Yasobhoomi International Convention and Expo Center at Dwarka in Delhi. With a capacity of over 11,000 delegates, the conference center also includes 15 conference rooms, large halls, and 13 meeting rooms. Developed at a cost of around Rs.5,400 crore, this center aims to boost the growth of exhibitions and conventions in the region.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi had the opportunity to meet various shoemakers, tailors, and artisans in Delhi, interacting with them and gaining insights into their products.

The inauguration of the PM Vishwakarma scheme and the subsequent events marked the government’s commitment to supporting traditional artisans and handicraft makers, providing them with opportunities for growth, skill development, and financial assistance.
