Can you elaborate on the goals of this scheme and its importance for rural advancement?
Mahendra Pal Gurjar: Thank you for having me. The Pradhan Mantri adarsh Gaon Yojana (PMAGY) aims to develop selected villages into model villages. By integrating various developmental initiatives, we work to enhance the quality of life for residents. This scheme not only provides essential infrastructure but also promotes community participation and empowerment.
Time.news Editor: it’s fantastic to hear about the focus on community empowerment. What specific projects are being funded in the 13 newly selected villages, and how will they benefit the local population?
Mahendra Pal Gurjar: Under the scheme, we plan to install solar street lights, build village roads, set up water coolers, renovate old pools, and improve facilities for smart classes. For these 13 villages, we will invest Rs 3.59 crore this financial year. These improvements will enhance living standards, provide better access to education, and encourage sustainable practices through solar energy.

The real challenge is ensuring sustainability and ongoing community involvement, which we are actively fostering through local committees.
Time.news Editor: with the implementation of such schemes, what do you believe are the long-term implications for rural development in Himachal Pradesh?
Mahendra Pal Gurjar: The long-term implications are profound. By transforming these villages into model centers of development, we can increase rural attractiveness and retain youth in these areas. it also helps bridge the urban-rural divide by modernizing infrastructure and creating economic opportunities. We aim not just for immediate benefits but for long-term socio-economic growth.

Mahendra Pal Gurjar: My primary advice would be to engage the community actively at every step. Understanding local needs through surveys and discussions is crucial for tailoring the projects effectively. Additionally, focusing on sustainability and involving local resources can improve the overall impact. It’s essential to build trust and commitment among residents to foster a sense of ownership over these developmental projects.
