The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism has just released its annual Digital News Report. One of the most important findings was that people were increasingly tired of the news, not only in Germany. This means that more people than last year are reducing their news consumption or avoiding it as much as possible – because they are tired of the bad news.

In this edition of our podcast “Die Medien-Woche”, we talk about this and other trends in media consumption. For example, about the role that platforms like Instagram or, more recently, TikTok play in news consumption. The “FAZ” has just started a TikTok channel.

We also talk about the designated Federal Commissioner for Anti-Discrimination, Ferda Ataman. Not so much about her professional qualifications, but about her decision to delete around 12,000 tweets on Twitter – almost at the same time as the announcement of her nomination. Transparency works differently.

Finally we take a look at the annual report of the contribution service of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio. The report lists how much money was earned through the license fee, how it is distributed – and how many households cannot or do not want to pay.
