In this edition of our “Die Medien-Woche” podcast, Oxford professor Rasmus Kleis Nielsen talks about the most important trends in media use. Together with a team, Nielsen, who is director of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, publishes the “Digital News Report”.
In an interview, Nielsen explains why in many countries there is an increasing number of people who avoid the news as much as possible and outright avoid it. And he says what media users expect from news today that competently classifies current world events without moralizing.
Journalism, Nielsen criticizes, is still largely dictated by 20th-century conventions. It is futile to hope that young people will use the established media brands themselves as they get older. (Note: the interview was conducted in English.)
The “Media Week” is a podcast about the world of media and its makers. Christian Meier, editor at WELT, and Stefan Winterbauer, editor-in-chief of the industry service Meedia, talk about the most important topics of the week every Friday. Background, analytical, entertaining.
