About 59% of the Italian surface is occupied by inland areas where over 13 million citizens reside. In all, there are about 4,000 municipalities defined as outermost based on the distance from basic services such as health and education. Territories increasingly at risk of depopulation, especially in the South, where the phenomenon of migration becomes the symbol of an economic and social crisis whose impact risks wiping out precious traditions and identity histories of Italy. “Sacro Minore” deals with these themes, published by Einaudi, the latest book by Franco Arminio, one of the most appreciated contemporary poets by readers and critics. The text will be presented on Saturday 22 April at 4.30 pm in Bassano Romano (Viterbo) in the setting of Villa Giustiniani, where it will be possible to visit the frescoes by Tempesta, Domenichino, Albani and the Castle.
The meeting is promoted by the Bassano Partecipa Association, a reality that has been dealing with local identity and the fight against the depopulation of towns and inland areas for years and which refers to the work that Arminio carries out with the Casa della Paesologia and the Alere Cooperative , which deals with fragility, suffering and loneliness, working in the “darkest” sectors of society.
“Sacro Minor” consists of very short verses, through which Arminio sinks his mind and heart into what is “sacred”, gives it shape and interpretation. He goes in search of the “sacred” and intercepts it in almost invisible objects, in abandoned things, in seemingly banal everyday life, in the last, in the suffering, in very human, repetitive and imperfect days. The initiative, with free admission, was also made possible thanks to the availability of the Regional Directorate of the Lazio Museums and the support of the Alere social cooperative, whose President Paola Marchetti, also a member of the Bassano Partecipa association, strongly supported this event first-rate cultural heritage in Bassano Romano.
