Pokémon Legends Z-A: Update 2.0.2 & DLC Details – Switch & Switch 2

by Sofia Alvarez

Pokémon fans have a new update to explore in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, now available on both Nintendo Switch and the newly released Nintendo Switch 2. The role-playing game has received update 2.0.2, following closely on the heels of its launch update and the first Mystery Gift distribution, as well as the release of the Mega Dimension DLC.

The highly anticipated title, which has already garnered attention for its confirmed enhanced edition for the Nintendo Switch 2, continues to expand its offerings for players. Pokémon Legends: Z-A introduces a fresh take on the classic Pokémon formula, allowing trainers to experience gameplay with modern twists. The game allows players to catch, battle, and Mega Evolve Pokémon in real-time, a significant departure from the traditional turn-based combat system. This new battle style requires strategic Pokémon swapping and careful consideration of move timing and area of effect, adding a new layer of depth to the gameplay experience.

Update 2.0.2: A Focus on Stability

The recently released update 2.0.2 for Pokémon Legends: Z-A focuses primarily on improving the overall game experience. According to release notes, the update addresses “several issues” without providing specific details about the changes. This suggests the update consists of minor adjustments and general stability improvements, aiming to refine the gameplay experience for players on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

This update arrives alongside the full release of the Mega Dimension DLC, which introduces a host of new features and content. Players can now encounter and Mega Evolve Pokémon like Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Ampharos, Mega Sableye, Mega Altaria, and Mega Absol. The DLC similarly includes a special side mission featuring Mewtwo, accessible after completing the main story. Players who complete this mission can add the Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo to their team and utilize Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y stones to Mega Evolve it into Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y.

Mega Mewtwo and Mystery Gifts

Starting December 2, 2025, players can receive Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y stones through the Mystery Gift feature in both Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. These stones are essential for Mega Evolving Mewtwo, unlocking its powerful Mega forms. The distribution of Mega Mewtwo was announced shortly before the release of update 2.0.0 and the DLC, adding to the excitement surrounding the game’s expanded content.

The ability to Mega Evolve Pokémon is central to the new gameplay mechanics introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. When a Trainer has a strong bond with their Pokémon, a Key Stone resonates with a Mega Stone held by the Pokémon, triggering Mega Evolution. This transformation significantly boosts the Pokémon’s stats and abilities, providing a strategic advantage in battle.

What’s New in the Mega Dimension DLC?

Beyond Mega Evolution, the Mega Dimension DLC introduces a variety of returning Pokémon and new Mega Evolutions. Players can explore a wealth of new content and challenges, expanding the world of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The DLC builds upon the game’s innovative real-time battle system, offering players new ways to strategize and compete.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is available now for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, offering a unique and immersive Pokémon experience.
