The Polish gas operator Gaz-System and the GTS Operator of Ukraine have launched public consultations on a project to increase transit capacity at the border between the two countries. This was reported by the press service of the Polish state-owned company.

It is noted that the joint development of the project began in October last year after operators conducted an analysis of market demand from July to August. It follows from the Gaz-System materials that the demand from market participants for gas transit from Poland to Ukraine for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 gas years is 149,270 cubic meters. m per year. From 2023 to 2032, this figure will triple, to 435,392 cubic meters, and from 2032 to 2038, to 376,527 cubic meters. The gas year runs from 1 October to 30 September.

The document to be discussed during the consultations includes a description of the project to increase gas capacity, including technical solutions, estimated cost, implementation timeline, offer level, as well as conditions for participation and access to capacity during the annual auction in July 2023.

At the end of December, the head of the Naftogaz company, Yuriy Vitrenko, said that Ukraine is not yet able to ensure the supply of gas from alternative sources, since LNG ships cannot enter Ukrainian ports, and regasified LNG cannot enter the country through a pipeline. According to him, in order to obtain LNG, it is necessary to modernize the system of gas pipelines from Poland, but the authorities of the latter are not investing in the project and are waiting for this step from the European Union.
