Poland: is Lukashenko sending refugees to death by cold? – Politics abroad

by time news

“Germany comes just across the border,” the smugglers told the five men. And sent them with little provisions into the cold of the Polish forests – almost to their death.

Belarus dictator Lukashenko and his cynical power game with the EU

For ten days, Kifah (36) and his four companions hid from the border troops in the Hajnówka forest. The food supplies ran out four days ago. Since then they have eaten nothing but a few cobs of corn from the fields.

Then came the rain, the cold – minus 2 degrees at night. They did not dare to make a fire. The wood was soaked anyway. Villagers discovered the five men in the thicket on Saturday evening.

Paramedics gave them silver aluminum blankets against hypothermia, infusions against malnutrition and the lack of water.

Kifah repeatedly bursts into tears when he tells the BILD reporters where he comes from: from Syria, then via Beirut by plane to Minsk. From there with minibuses to the border between Belarus and Poland.

It is Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko, who has been luring people like Kifah to Minsk for months and then sending them to perdition. “Our forests are becoming a mass grave,” says refugee worker Kasia Staszewska to BILD. Because: the snow is coming soon.

Almost 20,000 have already crossed the border into Poland, many are picked up by Polish border guards and pushed back again or abandoned at the border. In order to conceal such illegal “push-backs”, Poland’s Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski has declared the entire area a restricted zone.

Poland’s government now wants to build a 300-kilometer border fence. Cost: 330 million euros. EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen condemns the smuggling practice, but does not want to participate in the new Iron Curtain with a cent of EU money. Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU), on the other hand, expresses understanding for the planned Poland border wall, calling the border protection measures in BILD am SONNTAG “legitimate”.

Kifah and his companions were pushed back to Belarus just hours after they were rescued. Now they know the truth: the German border is 600 kilometers away.

Neo-Nazis on the German-Polish border

The police in Brandenburg picked up more than 50 people, some of whom were armed, on the Polish border near Guben who wanted to prevent migrants from entering Germany.

It was said that they followed the call by the neo-Nazi party “The Third Way” for a so-called “border crossing”. During the controls, among other things, pepper spray, a machete and batons were seized.
