Polaris Dawn mission: this was the first private spacewalk in history

Millionaire Jared Isaacman, one of the four crew members of the Polaris Dawn mission, became the first private individual to perform a spacewalk on Thursday.

Four people, two men and two women, make up the civilian crew of SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn mission, which this Thursday, September 12, marked an unprecedented milestone, after starring in the first private space walk in history.

The milestone, which was followed by millions of people through X, marked the furthest spacewalk from Earth in half a centuryand it carried the risk that in order to achieve their purpose the astronauts would have to cross a region of space known as the Van Allen Belt, the one that presents high levels of radiation.

The mission was made up of the millionaire Jared Isaacman; former US Air Force pilot Scott Poteet, and SpaceX engineers Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis.
