For the research, 50 participants over 18 years of age with little previous experience in pole dancing were recruited. These participants were divided into two groups: a pole dancing group and a waitlist-only control group.

For eight weeks, the pole dancing group participated in classes at two studios in Berlin, Germany. Each 60-minute session included a combination of general fitness exercises and pole dancing-specific training. The program was tailored to individual abilities so that everyone could participate effectively.

At the end of the experiment, the researchers found an increase in mental well-being among participants in the pole dancing class compared to the control group, as measured by the Warwick Edinburgh Scale. Specifically, women who took pole dancing classes were more likely to agree with statements like “I am lucid” and “I feel optimistic about the future.”

The results of the study also showed that participants in pole dancing classes had improvements in their sexual lives, whether in their body appreciation, self-esteem or self-confidence.
