Palestinian supporters engaged in violent clashes with pro-Israel demonstrators at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on Wednesday. Clashes lasted several hours until the police managed to separate the two groups and establish order. It is not yet known how many people have been injured.
Police arrived at Columbia University on Tuesday night at the request of the school’s administration, and Columbia University President Minush Shafiq said she had asked police to remain on campus until at least May 17 – two days after graduation – to maintain order and ensure the protest camp is not renewed.
The police operation lasted three hours. Police officers used a ladder to enter through a window into the administration building where protesters had barricaded themselves the night before. The police also demolished the tent camp that had been standing on the school grounds for almost two weeks.
Students protested against the war in the Gaza Strip. Similar protests have taken place in other US universities, from New York to Texas.
Israel launched a war against the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip after the terrorists carried out a massacre in Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 hostages.
In order to disperse the protesters, the police were called to several universities and more than 1,000 people were detained in total.
