The police detained a 48-year-old man as a suspect in the crime, in whose car they found 150 grams of amphetamine, the press service of the Police and Border Guard Board reported on Tuesday.

On October 6, in the Kohila municipality of Rapla County, a patrol stopped a Chrysler car that did not have a corresponding registration plate. Police found amphetamine in the 48-year-old man’s car.

“The patrol noticed that the vehicle had a homemade license plate and signaled to the driver of the vehicle to stop. The driver showed signs of drug intoxication and was removed from driving. When checking the car, police found several plastic packages with an unknown powder, a total of 150 grams. The rapid test carried out showed that this substance is an amphetamine, but a more accurate answer will be given by an examination,” said Tanel Alasmaa, an investigator at the Central Estonia Police Department.

The police detained a man and he was charged with possession of a narcotic substance on a large scale. “We will find out whether he was also involved in selling drugs during the criminal proceedings that have been initiated,” Alasmaa explained.

According to Alasmaa, the patrol that stopped the car found that the man did not have the right to drive a car and had already been caught driving without a license. The police also opened a criminal case against the man for repeated driving without a license.

The next day after the arrest, October 7, the prosecutor’s office petitioned the court to take the man into custody. The Pärnu County Court agreed with the opinion of the prosecutor’s office, and the man was taken into custody for two months. “Since the 48-year-old man has been repeatedly prosecuted for similar violations both criminally and administratively, and is also a suspect in other criminal proceedings, the prosecutor’s office considered that in his case there is a risk that he may continue to commit crimes. The Pärnu County Court agreed with the opinion of the prosecutor’s office and found that, taking into account the circumstances of the crime and the previous behavior of the suspect, detention is fully justified,” said Aarne Pruus, district prosecutor of the Lääne District Prosecutor’s Office.
