Police dissolve protest camp against Lobau tunnel and Stadtstraße – Austria

First came the blizzard – and then came the police. The occupants of the construction site on Wiener Hausfeldstrasse received a visit from the police on Thursday at around 11 a.m. They were informed that the meeting – as the protest camp against the controversial building projects Stadtstrasse and Lobau Tunnel is legally called – “is deemed to have been dissolved”. The environmental activists were asked to remove the huts that were built there “at the appropriate time”, as a spokeswoman for the Vienna State Police Department confirmed to STANDARD. “Persisting would be punishable.” At the same time, however, the police also say: “At the moment, no compulsory eviction is planned.”
