Police Investigate Man for Assaulting Marius Borg Høiby at Skaugum

Police in Oslo announced a criminal investigation on Sunday into an intruder who broke into the Skaugum residence of Marius Borg Høiby late Thursday night, according to TV 2.

Officers initially detained and escorted the man away from the property following the incident near midnight on Thursday, without filing formal charges or making an arrest. Authorities reversed course after receiving new details, opening a case for unauthorized access and bodily harm against the man, Dagbladet reported.

Senior adviser Eirik Veum confirmed that personnel from the Norwegian Police Security Service apprehended an individual near the residence during the early hours of Friday. Police prosecutor Erlend Bakke stated that investigators plan to interview both parties to uncover further details regarding the confrontation.

The suspect banged and kicked on the exterior door of the dwelling before pushing his way inside, according to VG.

Near the entryway, the individual pushed Høiby, who ultimately managed to shove the intruder back out of the house before alerting authorities, NRK reported.

Personnel from the Norwegian Police Security Service deployed to the property within moments and detained the individual.

Photographs from the scene captured the unidentified man standing in the dark outside the home wearing two different shoes with a suitcase placed beside him.

Høiby has spent the past sixteen weeks serving a remand custody period with an electronic tracking anklet at the Skaugum property, according to NRK.

His residence sits roughly two hundred meters away from the residence where the crown family resides, Nettavisen reported.

Se og Hør reported that the king and queen were at home when the confrontation unfolded.

Palace communications chief Guri Varpe referred all inquiries to the police, noting that the king and princess were on a private trip abroad.

Marius found it frightening and unpleasant to receive a visit in this manner in his own home, where he should be able to feel completely secure. His condition is good now, and he greatly appreciates that the police responded so quickly to assist him.

Defense attorney Alexander Greaker asserted that authorities establishing a formal criminal case with his client holding the status of injured party was appropriate.

The suspect has previous criminal convictions for violence handed down in 2024 and 2025 resulting in prison sentences of eight and eleven months, TV 2 reported.

Media reports indicate the individual has previously been admitted to a psychiatric hospital following police interventions and has expressed regret for prior actions attributed to psychosis.

Police investigators plan to conduct formal interviews with both Høiby and the suspect this week, according to VG.

Security measures surrounding Høiby are undergoing reviews and adjustments by security officials following the breach, Se og, Hør reported.

Senior adviser Eirik Veum stated that the security service continuously evaluates all protection assignments to implement necessary adjustments.

Representatives for the Royal Palace declined to comment on the incident.
