The Civil Police is investigating the death of a businesswoman after an aesthetic procedure at a clinic in Barra da Tijuca, west of Rio, on Friday (10).

According to family members, Lindama Benjamin de Oliveira, 59, who owned a guesthouse in Cabo Frio, in the Lagos Region, traveled to the capital to undergo liposculpture last Thursday (9).

Relatives said that the doctor Heriberto Ivan Arias Camacho, responsible for the surgery, only made contact with the family 24 hours after the procedure. According to them, the plastic surgeon informed that Lindama had anemia, was under observation and, perhaps, required a blood transfusion.

Worried about Lindama’s health, the relatives left Cabo Frio and went to the clinic. With the arrival of the family, the businesswoman was taken in serious condition to a private hospital in Vila da Penha, in the north zone, but she did not resist.

The death certificate delivered to the family members at the IML (Legal Medical Institute) pointed out that the patient’s death was caused by peritonitis due to intestinal perforation and hemorrhage.

In a note, physician Heriberto Ivan Arias Camacho mourned the patient’s death and sympathized with the family. According to the plastic surgeon, Lindamar was “promptly assisted by him and the entire medical team” and that, despite all efforts, she died.

Heriberto also declared that no type of expert report or even a position by the Instituto Médico-Legal found negligence, malpractice or recklessness on his part.

The Civil Police informed that the case was registered in the 27th DP (Vicente de Carvalho), but that the investigations will be transferred to the 16th DP (Barra da Tijuca).
