The second lieutenant of the Military Police arrested this Wednesday (7) suspected of being involved in the homicide of agent Vaneza Lobão, 31, received R$ 20 thousand (US$ 4 thousand) per month from Luis Antônio da Silva Braga, known as Zinho , designated as the leader of the largest militia in Rio de Janeiro. According to the Military Police, the complaint was received in 2023 and caused the forced departure of the agent from the corporation’s magistrate’s office.

The transfer to another battalion caused Leonardo Vinício Affonso to lose the bonus he received and the alleged bribe, according to a report obtained by the newspaper. Upon being arrested, Affonso denied being involved in the agent’s murder. He still did not have a defense attorney.

The order to leave the corregiduría was issued by Colonel Elton Marques, who at that time directed the 8th DPJM (Military Judiciary Police Delegation), a unit of the corregiduría dedicated to discovering possible police officers involved with paramilitaries and minor crimes. Affonso was stationed in this unit, along with Vaneza.

Since he worked in the corregiduría, the Military Police said he could choose the unit to which he would be transferred while the investigation was carried out. The agent opted for the 27th BPM (Santa Cruz), an area that is the cradle of the Zinho paramilitary group.

Zinho’s defense did not respond. In previous statements, he always denied that the detainee was a militia leader.
