Police officers accused of killing Tire Nichols in Memphis will appear before a judge in February

The five police officers accused of killing the young black man Tire Nichols in Memphis (Tennessee, USA) will appear for the first time before a judge on February 17, court records show.

The objective of the judicial hearing will be to determine if the agents can be released on bail or should continue to be detained.

The officers who beat Nichols, all black, They were arrested and each faces seven criminal charges.including second degree murder, which is punishable by between 15 and 60 years in prison.

The agents, who were expelled from the police force on January 18, arrested Nichols allegedly for a traffic violation on January 7.

After detaining him, videos released Friday show, police officers beat Nichols up, kicking him in the head and swearing at him as the victim yelled, “Mom, mom” and “give me a minute.”

Nichols, 29, died three days later at the hospital.
