A 19-year-old young man suspected of being the author of the snatching of a necklace which had provoked the collective aggression of three police officers in Lyon in July 2022, was placed under arrest warrant and imprisoned on Monday . That day, the man, in an irregular situation, is suspected of having fled after the theft of a necklace torn from a passerby. The three police officers who arrested him were then attacked by a very hostile group in the Guillotière district. A video of this scene of violence had been widely relayed on social networks.

Arrested Thursday in Vénissieux, in the suburbs of Lyon, in a cell phone theft case, he had been actively wanted since July 20. In this case, his trial for “robbery with violence in recidivism” has been set for April 13. During the hearing of the immediate appearances of the Lyon court on Monday, he assured that he had “nothing to do” with these events. Arrived in France in 2020, the young man of Algerian nationality was already sentenced in October 2021 to eight months in prison for theft with violence. Two other suspects for the acts committed in Vénissieux, who also appeared on Monday, were also placed under a warrant of committal.

This episode had triggered the trip to Lyon of the Minister of the Interior and relaunched the controversies around insecurity in this working-class district of Lyon. Following this case, the Minister announced the deployment of a second CRS company, ie 70 additional personnel to intervene in the Lyon area.
