Police officers injured in violence in southern Britain

Several police officers have been injured in a seventh day of violence in Plymouth, southwest England, after a stabbing in Southport, with more than 370 people arrested so far.

Devon and Cornwall Police said on Tuesday that six people had been arrested in Plymouth yesterday after “several officers” suffered minor injuries, and two members of the public were taken to hospital.
This came after fireworks were set off and stones were thrown at police who tried to separate rival demonstrations in the Devon coastal city.
In Southport, hundreds of people attended a peaceful vigil a week after the killings of Baby King, Elsie Dott Stancombe and Alice DaSilva Aguiar.
Children blew bubbles and left flowers and heart-shaped balloons on Monday evening in memory of the victims of the stabbing attack at a dance school during a children’s activity centered around the works of American star Taylor Swift.
Sky News reported on Monday that a “man armed with a knife” had attacked one of its trucks in Birmingham.
Safety Minister Jess Phillips, MP for Birmingham Yardley, said perpetrators of violence “will face consequences, regardless of who they are”.
In Plymouth, a police van was destroyed on Monday evening as masked anti-immigration protesters fired rockets at a counter-demonstration where participants held up signs reading “No place for hate” and “Say no to Nazis.”
A police officer in Devon and Cornwall reported that “large stones” were thrown at officers during the disturbances.
“This is no longer a protest. In my view, this is violence. This is ongoing violence,” Detective Inspector Ryan Northmore told Sky News as he spoke from the scene.
Acting Chief Constable Jim Colwell said officers had shown “brave action and great policing ability” when they responded to “reckless, despicable criminal behaviour”.
