An Argentine fan who had to be carried away on a stretcher from the Maracanã on Tuesday (21), bloodied after the pitched battle that delayed the match between Brazil and Argentina for the World Cup qualifiers, stated that the police took selfies with the wounded and photos of X-ray of a man’s broken arm “like war trophies.”

The fan says that around eight Argentines witnessed the scene and that one of the agents was wearing the blue and white T-shirt of the Bepe (battalion specialized in stadiums). When asked if the conduct of the police officers was being investigated internally, the RJ Military Police sent a general note about the confrontation saying that the detachment “rigorously fulfilled its mission.”

In an interview with the Argentine channel TyC Sports this Wednesday (22), the man identified only as Eugenio, who lives in Rio, said that he did not participate in the fight and that he hit his head when he fell against an iron bar that separates the stadium stairs. When he woke up, he was handcuffed on the stretcher and was forced to pay a bail of R$200 to leave the scene at 4 in the morning.
