According to police information, the symbolic fast protest which is said to be held today under the leadership of Edappadi Palaniswami is not allowed.

Former minister RB Udayakumar was elected as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition by a majority of the legislators. Later, a letter was sent to Assembly Speaker Appavu on behalf of ADMK to recognize RB Udayakumar as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition.

In this case, the party of Edappadi Palaniswami from ADMK walked out of the Legislative Assembly today, noting that RB Udayakumar has not been recognized as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition even after giving a letter for many days. Moreover, ADMK is planning to hold a hunger strike tomorrow in Valluvar constituency to protest against the non-recognition of RB Udayakumar as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

Former AIADMK minister Thalavai Sundaram had said that he has filed a complaint with the police commissioner seeking permission for this protest and that the fast will be held as planned. ADMK former minister Thalavai Sundaram, district secretary Adhirajaram and ADMK lawyer Babu Murugavel filed a petition at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office yesterday regarding this permission. It is reported that the police have rejected the hunger strike after considering this petition.
