Three people were killed in a knife attack in Solingen. The suspect has been caught, but many questions remain unanswered. The police are hoping for witnesses.

After the suspected Islamist terrorist attack in Solingen, investigators published a poster with a photo of the suspect. This was accompanied by an appeal from the Federal Prosecutor General and the Düsseldorf police to the public – they asked for support. The poster was published on Friday.

“Who can provide information about the person pictured and their whereabouts between August 23, 2024 and August 24, 2024?” read the poster. The authorities were also interested in a special yellow rain jacket that was also pictured. “Who can provide information about the origin of the rain jacket pictured?” they asked. The exact background remained unclear at first.

On August 23, a man killed three people with a knife and injured others in Solingen. The suspected perpetrator, a 26-year-old Syrian, is in custody. He was not arrested until the evening of the following day, August 24.

One of the investigators’ goals seems to be to find out where the suspect might have been in the time between the crime and his arrest. North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) had already said on Thursday that this still needed to be clarified. “That’s around 24 hours, which we’re missing,” Reul reported to the Interior Committee of the NRW state parliament.
