Police officers identified two warehouses with counterfeit alcohol in Surgut and Nefteyugansk (Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug). In total, more than 11 tons of alcohol were seized, the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

More than 14 thousand bottles of strong alcohol, about 750 bottles of liquid based on ethyl alcohol with a strength of 93.9 degrees and more than 35.5 thousand packs of cigarettes were found in the Surgut warehouse. As follows from the message of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, two residents of Surgut bought alcohol and cigarettes without excise stamps for 1 million rubles. from unknown people outside the region.

A warehouse in Nefteyugansk was found in a garage. The police seized more than 6.4 thousand unmarked bottles of vodka and cognac with a total volume of 3.2 thousand liters. Their cost was more than 1 million rubles. The garage was owned by a 38-year-old local resident. “The man explained that he had bought alcohol for the purpose of resale at a higher price through small retail outlets in the city,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs added.

The police opened a criminal case on the production, acquisition, storage and sale of products without labeling (part 6 of article 171.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The court appointed the defendants a preventive measure in the form of a recognizance not to leave the place.

Over the past month, several mass poisonings with counterfeit alcohol have occurred in the regions of Russia. In particular, 30 people died from methanol poisoning in the Sverdlovsk region. Another 35 people died and 30 were injured after consuming surrogate alcohol in the Orenburg region. Three people died from poisoning in the Kurgan region. After that, the Ministry of Internal Affairs proposed to establish state regulation of the turnover of methanol.
