According to police, Rajendran alias Rajesh, a former accused in the 2014 murder of a customs officer and his wife in Tamil Nadu, had entered Kerala before the trial began.

He arrived in Thiruvananthapuram a month ago. He then started working in a hotel. Rajendran was on leave as it was lockdown on Sunday, February 6. So I came to the humble place of work in Ambalamukku while just wandering around. He was released with the intention of stealing. The accused then tried to snatch Vineeta’s necklace.

When Rajendran tried to stop the robbery, he stabbed Vineetha with a knife in his hand. The city police commissioner said the defendant’s intent was to commit theft and that the defendant should be further questioned in custody to obtain further information. The police added that the accused, who is on the criminal list in Tamil Nadu, is always in possession of a knife.

Vineetha was found stabbed to death inside her shop at Ambalamukku on Sunday afternoon at Charuvilakonam, Karipur, Nedumangad. On the day of the incident, the police concluded that the person who had left the shop may have committed the murder. A special investigation team was then formed to investigate based on the CCTV footage. Police also released a sketch of the suspect.

The investigation was based on information received from people regarding the autorickshaw and bike on which he was traveling. The shadow police were also investigating, focusing on the CCTV footage. He was later informed that he was in Tamil Nadu and was taken into police custody. The police arrived at the accused in addition to conducting inspections at various camps where guest workers were staying the previous day.
