Two men have been hospitalized with serious injuries after being shot by police in Malmö. The incident occurred during an intervention related to a mental illness call. According to Rickard Lundqvist, the police spokesperson, they went to the scene to assist paramedics but encountered a threatening situation that led them to fire shots.
The injured men, aged in their 30s and 40s, are reported to have sustained serious injuries, according to Region Skåne’s website. The incident is being investigated as a serious illegal threat to an official.
Due to the use of service weapons by the police, the actions of the officers involved will be reviewed by a special prosecutor. Lundqvist stated that more details cannot be disclosed at this time, as the prosecutor needs to assess what transpired.
