It was opened to help the families of the four police officers indicted in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) for the beating of a young man on the sidelines of urban violence. If at the end of Friday afternoon, it had nearly 22,000 euros, it exceeded 35,000 euros this Saturday in the middle of the afternoon.

Created on the initiative of the Bac Sud, this kitty aims to “support their family and provide for their financial needs (…) and will allow them to compensate for their loss of salary during the time of the instruction”, writes the author of the jackpot which will be closed on August 15.

The four civil servants, two members of the anti-crime brigade (Bac) Sud and two of the BAC center, were indicted on the night of Thursday to Friday for violence in meetings by a person holding public authority with the use or threat of a weapon resulting in an ITT (total incapacity for work) for more than 8 days.

“He was pulled like a rabbit and then beaten up”

On the night of July 1 to 2, when the center of Marseille was in the throes of violent riots which had followed the death of Nahel, a 17-year-old teenager killed by a policeman in Nanterre during a traffic check, they allegedly beat up a 21-year-old.

On his hospital bed, a few days after the events, Hedi told the daily La Provence that he had been shot in the temple by an LBD, before being hit by a group of four to five people. “He was shot like a rabbit and then beaten up,” denounced his lawyer, Me Jacques-Antoine Preziosi, on Friday, specifying that the young man’s initial medical certificate mentioned 60 days of ITT.

Immediately operated in neurosurgery and now wearing a helmet, after part of his cranial bone was removed, he was able to return home on Thursday after being operated on again for a broken jaw, added Me Preziosi. According to the lawyer, Hedi, who works in catering in Meyrargues, about forty kilometers from Marseille, could also have lost his left eye.

The indictment of the four Marseille police officers, but above all the provisional detention of one of them, like the police officer who had killed Nahel in Nanterre on June 27, aroused the ire of the unions.

The director general of the national police (DGPN) Frédéric Veaux also made the trip to Marseille on Saturday, to meet the staff of the BACs. The police chief will come “not to calm the troops, but to talk to them and listen to them”, according to this source.
