The police have taken down AfD election posters in Frankfurt (Oder). The reason for this is an investigation by the public prosecutor’s office into the suspicion of using symbols of unconstitutional organizations against the AfD state parliament member Wilko Möller, a spokeswoman for the authority explained. The election poster for the AfD member shows two adults raising their arms above three seated children. “We protect your children,” is written above the image.

The similarity of the arm position of the two adults to the Hitler salute finally prompted the public prosecutor’s office to investigate. Regardless of the outcome of the investigation, the Frankfurt (Oder) public prosecutor’s office believes the poster “shows symbols of an unconstitutional association and is therefore illegal,” the spokeswoman explained.

The police are fundamentally obliged to eliminate illegal situations. “This is done regardless of whether an investigation is being conducted and how it turns out,” the spokeswoman stressed.

The criminal police followed the assessment of the public prosecutor’s office and then had the posters taken down. According to the city, the officers asked the municipality for help. The remaining posters were taken down on Monday with the help of several firefighters and an emergency vehicle. According to his party, AfD politician Wilko Möller had already taken down some of the controversial posters at the request of the police. “If the city association does not take action, the police will,” said a spokesman for the AfD state association, reflecting the police’s demand.
