Two men have been arrested in the US after stealing a Ferrari. Apple earphones helped the police track down the perpetrators.
Apple’s location service helped police in the US state of Connecticut recover a stolen Ferrari. This is reported by local media. Accordingly, the owner of the $575,000 sports car left his Apple Airpods in the vehicle.
The officers were able to trace the headphones using Apple’s “Where is” service and located the Ferrari at a gas station. When the police approached the car, a man jumped out of the vehicle and fled. However, the suspect left his iPhone in the car.
Officers said they were able to identify and locate the driver using his cell phone. He and a suspected accomplice were arrested. As it turned out, one of the perpetrators had already been accused of car theft several times, they said.
Cases continue to emerge in which Apple’s “Find My?” network has helped solve crimes. Police in Santa Barbara County, California (USA) recently arrested two suspected package thieves using an Apple Airtag.
A woman sent herself a package after mail was stolen from her mailbox several times. She had hidden one of the tracking devices in this package. This enabled the perpetrators to be located and arrested.
In another case, an SUV owner from Canada was able to track his stolen vehicle using an Apple Airtag. The signal eventually led the trail to a used car market in the United Arab Emirates.
Less spectacular cases also became known: In July, the owner of a dry cleaner in Kiel caught a flower thief with an Apple Airtag. And a few weeks ago, the police in Düsseldorf were able to locate a stolen travel bag using Airtag and arrest the thief.
