BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called the police’s obstruction of the Democracy Forum program an expression of cruelty.

He made this comment in a statement sent to the media on Wednesday (February 28) night.

Mirza Fakhrul said that the occupying Awami ruling group is undermining people’s right to vote and democratic rights and is repressing the people including the opposition parties more intensely. Another brutal manifestation was the brutal police attack on a peaceful protest march at the Democracy Forum. More than 50 activists, including the leader of the Democracy Manch, Jonaid Saki, were injured.

He further said, I condemn and protest against such attacks. We demand the immediate unconditional release of those arrested. Besides, the BNP Secretary General wished for the speedy recovery of the injured Jonaid Saki.

On Wednesday afternoon, there was a demonstration of democracy stage towards the Secretariat to protest against the increase in the price of goods and money laundering. At this time, the program was stopped by the police baton near the zero point. Several leaders and activists including Jonaid Saki, the chief coordinator of the mass solidarity movement, were injured in the baton.
