DECRYPTION – A New Yorker has contracted poliomyelitis, a sign of the active spread of the disease in the city.

The American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed on August 16 that a young man living in the suburbs of New York (United States) had contracted poliomyelitis. A member of the Orthodox Jewish community, known for its low adherence to vaccination, he had never been vaccinated against polio as a child. In all likelihood, he was infected through a long chain of transmission with a variant of the live attenuated virus used in oral polio vaccines.
