Changes are being implemented in very important state institutions, said A. Duda.

In justifying the move, Mr Tusk argued on Friday that his government’s first months since taking office in December had been dedicated to dismantling the structures created by the former nationalist conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party, and that now was the time to clean up.

Hanna Wróblewska, former director of the Warsaw National Art Gallery, replaces Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz as Minister of Culture. The Minister of the Interior, Marcin Kierwiński, is being replaced by the coordinator of intelligence services, Tomasz Simoniak, who will now hold both positions. Jakub Jaworowski becomes the new Minister of State Enterprises – he replaces Borys Budkas in this post. The ministries of culture, interior and state enterprises are headed by members of D. Tusko’s Citizens’ Platform. The fourth minister, Krzysztof Hetman, a member of the Christian-conservative party “Third Way”, is being replaced in the Ministry of Development and Technology by Krzysztof Paszyk, who until now headed the party’s faction in the parliament.

EP elections in the 27-member bloc will be held on June 6-9. Poland will vote on June 9.
