Human rights activists reported that another political activist was detained by Iranian security forces in Tabriz.

Security officers arrested Huseyn Amani Nadarli on May 18, referring to human rights organizations such as the HRA agency and the Ark society.

According to the HRA agency, officers searched the home of the Turkish activist and confiscated his personal belongings, such as a computer, books, manuscripts and a mobile phone.

On Thursday, there were reports that many political activists were detained in Tabriz. Human rights defenders confirmed the names of Davud Shiri, Hamza Valizadeh, Ruhullah Ahmadinejad, Javad Ahmadzadeh and Alirza Sabri before those arrested that day.

It is reported that the activists have been kept in connection with the anniversary of the May 2006 protests, which are expected to be held in the coming days.

On May 12, 2006, the caricatures published in Iran magazine, the official press of the Iranian state, caused protests. In the cartoon, a child asks a cockroach in Persian, and the cockroach answers in Turkish. The written text discusses ways to destroy cockroaches. The mass protests that lasted for days, especially in cities such as Sulduz, Tabriz, Urmia and Khiyav, were bloodily suppressed by the use of force by police and military forces.
