Political Fallout: Pavlos Polakis Faces Expulsion from SYRIZA After Outrageous Behavior in Parliament

by time news

Inter-party condemnation was triggered by the behavior of Pavlos Polakis in Parliament, who ultimately paid for his fiery character, namely his indiscreet mouth and his vulgar behavior, with his expulsion from the SYRIZA parliamentary group. Stefanos Kasselakis, after a considerable delay and a series of provocations, such as the “shut up” directed at the secretary of New Democracy days ago, finally made the big decision to do what Alexis Tsipras either failed to do (or did not dare): to throw out the so-called “fiery Cretan.”

However, reports suggest that Polakis is preparing to establish his own party, targeting a fervent audience that shares his style of bullying, insults, and conspiracy theories. After all, dozens of his followers on social media are urging him to do so with messages like “start a party” or “we’re with you, leader.” Additionally, he himself remarked that “I won’t stop, take note, only the people can expel.”

The bullying of the aide to Adonis Georgiadis crossed the red lines within the opposition party and brought about the end (?) of Polakis’s career, at least regarding Koumoundourou. He was led to the exit by SYRIZA MP Athena Linou, who couldn’t stand her toxic colleague and broke down in tears, apologizing to the employee for her colleague’s behavior.

It is surprising that no request has been made for Pavlos Polakis to return his seat. Why are they demanding it from the MPs of the New Left and not from Pavlos Polakis? Are they afraid of him, or do they leave some open window for his return?

But let’s take a look at what Polakis did.

Polakis: “Don’t twist your face, madam”

Polakis targeted an aide to Adonis Georgiadis and attacked her with these words:

“Don’t twist your face, madam. I say this to you; you have a permanent, not a smile, but a grimace of disdain. It is annoying,” he said in front of the stunned members of the parliamentary committee, adding, directing his comments to the minister’s legal advisor Natasha Petroulia: “You have a female aide to the minister who has a permanent expression of disdain. It’s irritating to see.”

Polakis’s behavior was so vulgar that his colleague, Athena Linou, couldn’t bear it.

She rushed to defend Adonis Georgiadis’s aide and, with tears in her eyes, apologized to her, stating:

“I want to personally apologize to the colleague who suffered this form of violence, and I believe we cannot allow such behavior, regardless of who it comes from, towards any woman or any person.”

The reaction of Adonis Georgiadis

The unacceptable stance of the Chania MP triggered an angry reaction from Adonis Georgiadis, who demanded that SYRIZA expel the “fiery Cretan” and that the Speaker of the Parliament take disciplinary action against him.

For his part, government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis emphasized that Mr. Polakis “has lost all sense of decency,” since this time the target of his unscrupulous attack was a working woman, and stressed that “the glass has overflowed.”

Tsoulas’s anger towards Polakis

The Speaker of Parliament, Konstantinos Tsoulas, “exploded” against Pavlos Polakis, referring to him as a “vulgar attention seeker,” from whom he even cut half of his parliamentary salary.

“We are not perfect in judging Mr. Polakis with such strictness. I, for one, am not perfect. But there are limits, and those limits were egregiously crossed today, and we must react,” the Speaker of Parliament notably said.

Unrepentant Polakis: I would do it again

Unrepentant, Pavlos Polakis stated shortly after his expulsion that he “would do it again,” while in response to Athena Linou’s tears, he said she should “not apologize for me, but should look at herself.”

He even went on to note in a post: “I won’t stop, take note! Only the people can expel.”

Immediately after, Pavlos Polakis went to the room where the SYRIZA parliamentary group was going to meet, from which he had just… been expelled, asking for explanations from Socratis Famellos. Eventually, after several incidents, he left the room.

During his speech in the SYRIZA parliamentary group, St. Kasselakis avoided commenting on the incident involving Polakis, making only an indirect reference, stating that “there is no room for tactics and personal agendas,” but when he closed the meeting he emphasized:

“I feel bad about the decision I was forced to make. It was a very difficult decision because I truly care for him and he has done great work at the Ministry of Health and in the hospitals of the country. Wherever I went, people spoke highly of him. But in Parliament, we must be institutional and speak with due respect for all. Pavlos belongs to SYRIZA, but within the Parliament, there are also limits, and New Democracy has insulted the space of Parliament with various anti-institutional actions.”

“For the first time, we see someone entering a legislative body from which they have been expelled,” remarked New Democracy officials, adding: “Perhaps the fact that Kasselakis didn’t mention this in his speech confirms why it happened this way.”
