The leader of the political movement Operation Libero caused a stir with an Instagram post. She later apologized for the provocative image.

The Instagram post consists of two photos from an action for which Sanija Ameti would later apologize: The first image shows the GLP politician standing and aiming with a pistol. It is accompanied by the caption: “Shut down.” In the past, Ameti has expressed enthusiasm for shooting sports.

What caused the uproar, however, was that the target was a picture of Mary with the Christ child, as shown in the second image of the Instagram post. The subject apparently is part of an art catalog.

After being questioned about her post by “Blick,” the politician deleted it immediately and apologized according to the newspaper:
“As a template for the 10-meter shooting, I used motifs that are sufficiently visible. I only had the Koller catalog at hand, which was large enough. I didn’t pay attention to the content of the images. That was not right. I sincerely apologize if I hurt anyone with that!”

In addition to the apology on Instagram, the GLP politician also commented to “Blick”: “That was absolutely stupid of me. I didn’t think anything of it. I am incredibly sorry. I ask for forgiveness from those who were hurt by this.” (lak)
