Political Manipulation: BJP’s Price Reduction Plays for Votes

by time news

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress President KS Azlagiri has criticized the Union BJP government for reducing the price of cooking gas cylinder for domestic use by Rs. 200 across the country. In a statement, he claimed that this decision was made for political gain ahead of the upcoming state elections.

Azlagiri accused Prime Minister Modi and the BJP of employing similar tactics in the past, citing the withdrawal of the controversial 3 agriculture laws as an example. He claimed that Modi only took this step keeping in mind the Punjab elections and not due to any genuine concern for the farmers.

Highlighting the increasing prices of essential commodities under the BJP’s nine-year rule, Azlagiri argued that the recent reduction of Rs. 200 should not be seen as a significant relief. Instead, he compared it to a mere cornmeal for an elephant’s hunger, implying that it is not enough to address the larger economic crisis faced by the people.

Furthermore, Azlagiri criticized the Modi government for failing to fulfill its promise of providing employment to 2 crore people each year. He claimed that the unemployment rate has soared to an unprecedented 23 percent under their regime. He also accused the government of resorting to divisive tactics by focusing on issues like building a Ram temple and cancelling Article 370 of the Constitution to divert attention from their failures.

Azlagiri expressed confidence that the people, who are struggling due to the economic crisis and declining purchasing power, will teach the Modi government a lesson in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The statement by the Tamil Nadu Congress President highlights the ongoing political battle between the ruling BJP and opposition parties ahead of the state elections. With the issue of rising prices and unemployment becoming major concerns for the public, political parties are vying to gain support by promising solutions to these pressing problems.
