In a visit that is the first of its kind since the outbreak of war in Sudan, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed arrived in Port Sudan.

The Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) reported that “Ahmed” arrived at Port Sudan Airport on an official visit, during which he will hold talks with the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Commander of the Army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.

Earlier, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Walid Al-Khuraiji arrived in Port Sudan, in the first visit by a Saudi official to the country since the outbreak of the war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces on April 15, 2023.

It is noteworthy that with the outbreak of confrontations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, Saudi Arabia put forward an initiative to stop the war, as the two parties signed an agreement on May 11, 2023, in the city of Jeddah, stipulating “the protection of civilians and refraining from using public and private facilities for military purposes,” but the agreement was not implemented, as each party accuses the other of violating it, while international and regional calls and demands failed to return the two parties to the Jeddah platform.

The war in Sudan has killed tens of thousands, including up to 15,000 people in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state, while some estimates put the number at 150,000, according to the US special envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello. Sudan has also registered nearly 10 million internally and externally displaced people since the outbreak of fighting.
