After a meeting at the Miraflores Palace, the presidents of Colombia and Venezuela issued a joint statement.
At the Miraflores Palace in Caracas, Presidents Gustavo Petro Urrego of Colombia and Nicolás Maduro Moros of Venezuela issued a joint statement reaffirming the mutual commitments to support peace in both countries and in the region, as well as the strengthening of political and commercial relations between both nations.
During the meeting, the leaders reviewed the most important aspects of the bilateral relationshipthey exchanged points of view on geopolitical and regional challenges and highlighted the values of brotherhood, solidarity and complementarity between both nations.
In their joint statement, Petro and Maduro reaffirmed their commitment to peace and political, social and economic stability in their respective countries.. They especially highlighted Venezuela’s role as guarantor in the dialogue processes between the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the Central General Staff of the FARC-EP.

In addition, they expressed their satisfaction with the progress in trade matters since the normalization of political and diplomatic relations in 2022, highlighting the recovery of the commercial exchange of goods and services that has benefited various economic and industrial sectors in both countries.
Regarding energy and environmental cooperation, they agreed to continue advancing in the consolidation of a binational energy guarantee networkincluding electrical interconnection and the promotion of clean energy projects.
The presidents also discussed the situation in Ecuador and Haiti, expressing their concern and calling for immediate solutions to the challenges facing both countries.
Finally, Petro and Maduro agreed to maintain frequent contacts and a permanent exchange of information on all topics addressed during the meeting.
“Political peace in Venezuela can also be armed peace in Colombia. And in that, well, there is a land to build quickly, urgently,” said President Gustavo Petro.
