Political Turmoil in Greece: SYRIZA Slumps to 5th Place as Public Discontent Grows

Loud warning bells for the entire political system in the Interview poll. SYRIZA, amidst infighting, falls to 5th place. However, the government also shows a significant drop, with its work being rated below average. The most popular prime minister is “none,” and the second force is the undecided voters.

Specifically, according to the poll conducted on behalf of Politic, the most suitable prime minister for Greece is “none” with 48%. Following are Kyriakos Mitsotakis with 35%, Stefanos Kasselakis with 11%, and Nikos Androulakis with 6%.

In voting intention, the first position of ND is in no way threatened; however, its percentage drops to 22% (in December 2023, it was at 31.2%). The second party is PASOK with 11.7%, while the battle for third place is won by Greek Solution (8.8%) by a narrow margin over KKE (8.7%). SYRIZA lands at 8.3%, a finding that will likely not escape the intense confrontation that has erupted within the party, which has split into three camps.

The Voice of Reason of Avroditi Latinopoulou, who surprised in the European elections, is measured quite high at 4%, leaving behind Plevsi Eleftherias (3.9%) and Niki (3.3%).

Despite the turmoil in the opposition party and the upcoming internal elections in PASOK, the government does not seem to be gaining the trust of the citizens.

79% of respondents evaluate its work negatively, while only 19% express positive views.

This widespread dissatisfaction is also reflected in the popularity of the political leaders. Specifically, Kyriakos Mitsotakis maintains first place in popularity with 29.8% positive opinions; however, 68.3% of citizens evaluate him negatively. Dimitris Koutsoumpas and Zoe Konstantopoulou follow with 28.2% and 24.7% positive opinions respectively, although both also have high percentages of negative opinions (63.8% and 67.9%).

The highest dissatisfaction rates are recorded for Nikos Androulakis (81.6%), Stefanos Kasselakis (81.6%), Kyriakos Velopoulos (79%), and Dimitris Natsios (78.8%).
