Politically, GERB had to be freed from the stigma that it hindered the reform. This was stated in “The Day Begins on Sunday” on BNT by the former chairman of the constitutional commission of the 49th National Assembly and deputy from GERB-SDS Radomir Cholakov.
“The idea that Bulgarians with dual citizenship can participate in political life as people’s representatives and ministers is an old idea of the colleagues from “Yes, Bulgaria”, and before that also from “Reformator Bloc”. There is an emotional moment and I felt it. Each of us has relatives abroad. It was about how to attract these people to Bulgaria. How to make them feel that they are always welcome in the homeland and that they can also become deputies and ministers here strong emotion, because everyone imagines their relatives. For me, because an assessment of the impact of the constitution was not made, we did not assess and I continue to think that we did not assess the risks”, this is how he commented on his refusal to support the idea of dual citizenship for MPs.

Why did the mandate have to be reduced, why?”, that’s how Cholakov answered a question about whether there should be a new attempt to limit the rights of the chief prosecutor and to carry out the reforms.
“What happened with the amendment of the constitution, what is happening with the amendment of the legislation is a real war of ideas. I also supported the constitution with full consciousness I supported it and we have no reason to apologize. 10-15 years of media terror if GERB did not support the amendments to the constitution, so GERB sabotaged the reform.
