This is the economic measure that has allowed several tens of thousands of very modest French people to buy a new electric car. “Social leasing”, launched by the head of the former president of the sustainable development commission of the National Assembly, the Bouches-du-Rhône deputy of the Ensemble pour la République (EPR), Jean-Marc Zulesi, — defeated at last legislative elections – allowed 50,000 people to drive “clean” for 100 euros a month (excluding insurance).
Problem, the device is expensive and also very expensive. While it was supposed to finance only 25,000 vehicles, social leasing, appreciated since its launch by tens of thousands of motorists, was extended to 50,000 cars for a total amount of 650 million euros. That is, more than a third of the budget allocated by the government to make the car fleet greener and increased during the year from 1.5 billion euros to 1.7 billion euros.
