She believes that there are “golden rules” that are always followed. Vanaga said that the Minister of Industry is probably sure that her salary will increase by 400 to 500 euros, because it is provided by one of these “golden” laws.

Meanwhile, the implementation of the Education Law is in jeopardy and money has not been requested even for priority measures, said the head of the trade union.

Vanaga claimed that the union found out last week that the Education Law regarding the salary increase was not to be implemented, by looking for information in the documents submitted to the government.

“Let’s look for medicines to treat politicians against this virus,” she said.

Vanaga also claimed that there is a risk of facing a salary cut for some teachers already this year, because it is foreseen by some disorderly regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers.

“Its instability is such that, perhaps, the salary of some teachers will decrease from September of this year, but for all of them, the salary increase schedule from January will not be fulfilled,” she said.

Vanaga explained that at the LIZDA council meeting it will be decided what to do next. The union wants to start with negotiations, only as a last resort deciding on “taking to the streets”. The trade union has already sent letters to the officials and appealed to the National Tripartite Cooperation Council.

“We do not intend to accept that politicians adhere to the principle of always obeying the laws that apply to them, but the laws that apply to other groups of society – as it happens,” she emphasized.

Vanaga also said – as soon as the budget draft reaches the Saeima, it will be clear whether it will be possible to do without “radical methods”.

LETA already announced that it is not yet clear whether teachers will receive at least 10.35 euros for one working hour from 2025, as provided by the schedule of the lowest wage rate, it follows from what the Minister of Education and Science Anda Čakša (JV) expressed to journalists last week .

“The final word” cannot be said at the moment, as discussions on the 2025 budget are still ongoing, said Chaksha. She reminded that the government has made internal and external security the main budget priority.
