After there were several bomb threats throughout Germany, politicians are warning of a threat from Islamist terrorists. The CDU foreign politician Roderich Kiesewetter has called on the federal government to prepare the population for the danger of Islamist attacks. “Islamist terror and the undermining of the liberal democratic order by groups that have long been present in Germany are already taking place. “It is only a matter of time before violence against institutions turns into violence against people or even broader terrorist attacks,” Kiesewetter told the “Rheinische Post”.

Such activities and concrete attack plans from supporters of Hamas and Hezbollah can therefore also be expected in Germany. Both groups would specifically advertise and call for terror. There is also a risk of copycat acts. “Unfortunately we have to expect that and we have to be prepared for serious attacks,” warned the CDU politician. Hamas’ massive disinformation campaign also contributed to this. “The federal government must prepare the population for this,” he emphasized.

Green security politician von Notz: The security situation is extremely tense

Green security politician Konstantin von Notz also warns of a real terrorist threat in Germany. “The current threats from Islamist terrorism throughout the Western world, including in Germany, are very real and must be taken absolutely seriously,” von Notz told the “Rheinische Post”. Panic is “certainly not appropriate” and is always bad advice. “At the same time, the security situation must continue to be viewed as extremely tense overall,” emphasizes the chairman of the Parliamentary Control Committee.

He also called for the security authorities to increase their focus on Islamist threats. Currently, around 500 people are classified as Islamist “threats” and approximately the same number as “relevant persons”. The Green politician demands that it is urgently necessary to at least put the particularly relevant people under increased observation and to carry out so-called “risk speeches”. “It must be unmistakably clear to these people that they are increasingly in the focus of the security authorities,” emphasized von Notz.

The Federal Criminal Police Office classifies as threats people who the security authorities believe could commit “politically motivated crimes of considerable importance”. Relevant people are contacts or companions of perpetrators and potential supporters of political crimes.

SPD domestic politician Grötsch: Intelligence services are vigilant

SPD domestic politician Uli Grötsch believes the threat from Islamist terror is real, but believes it is unfounded to generally avoid places affected by bomb threats. “Unfortunately, the danger from Islamist terrorists in Germany has remained high for years. The bomb threats should therefore be taken very seriously,” Grötsch told the “Rheinische Post” (Friday).

Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) and the security authorities are keeping a “very close eye” on the threat situation. The intelligence services are “particularly vigilant” in the current very tense situation and are cooperating closely with foreign partners in an international network. “I see no reason to avoid places like train stations or even schools. I say very clearly: We can feel safe in Germany,” emphasized Grötsch at the same time.
