Pollen Allergy Alert: Birch and Alder Pollen Levels High During Easter Weekend

by time news

Right now, it is alder that blooms in large parts of the country and makes it difficult for people with pollen allergies. During Easter Eve and Easter Day, there is a risk of high concentrations of alpine pollen over southern Norrland’s coastal and inland areas.

But even birch pollen allergy sufferers can have a difficult Easter, reports Sveriges Radio. The birch in Sweden has not started to bloom yet, but on sunny and warm days, birch pollen can still appear. This is because it is brought in over the country by southerly winds.

In Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, among others, the birches have started to bloom and pollen can travel all the way to Sweden with the winds and give rise to high concentrations. Above all, it has been noticed in southern and northwestern Götaland and in parts of Svealand, according to pollenkollen.se, which is run by the National Museum of Natural History.

In southern Sweden, willow is otherwise blooming and soon also elm. Overall, the pollen season starts earlier now than just over 40 years ago when the measurements of pollen levels began, which is explained as being due to a warmer climate.
