The original Polo GTI subcompact Hot Hatch appeared in 1998, and Volkswagen fans probably already consider it a collector’s item. Well, now they can mix and match it with something contemporary, the new VW Polo GTI Edition 25 special series.

A quarter of a century has passed since Volkswagen introduced the world’s first subcompact Polo GTI sports hatchback. It certainly isn’t as old as the VW Golf GTI, which was born in 1976, but it sure follows in its footsteps by adding weight, exponentially increasing the hp count and trying to halve its zero to 100 km/h time. And of course, one can also enjoy many comforts nowadays.

As 25 years have passed since Volkswagen launched the first Polo GTI on the market, the German company naturally celebrates the anniversary with the special GTI Edition 25. Limited to just 2,500 units, the Mk6 Polo rocks the same 152 kW along with the usual set of outstanding features. This includes a standard sport suspension, electronic XDS differential lock, lots of equipment items and a host of “special design highlights”.

Pricing, of course, equals the glory of a collector’s item, and the new Volkswagen Polo GTI Edition 25 has an MSRP of €35,205 starting at current exchange rates in Germany, where it will be available from June.

Specifications for VW Polo:

Anyway, back to the Golf GTI’s little brother, the exclusive Polo GTI Edition 25 anniversary model will hit 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, along with its “unique equipment feature set”. The latter includes perks like 18-inch Adelaide Black Glossy alloy wheels, a black painted roof and mirrors, premium sports seats in perforated black-red leather with GTI logos and gloss black trim with red GTI lettering, plus a commemorative ” One of 2500” symbol in the cabin. The special edition version is available in regular Polo GTI shades such as Pure White, Kings Red Metallic, Reef Blue Metallic, Smoke Gray Metallic and Deep Black Pearl Effect, but there is also a new Ascot Gray shade.

Other perks range from IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlamps with Dynamic Light Assist and LED daytime running lights to a sports steering wheel and optional Travel Assist as part of the IQ.DRIVE assistance package that “can take over steering, braking and the acceleration of the new Polo GTI at speeds of up to 210 km/h”. Inside, the standard Ready2Discover infotainment system has an 8-inch touchscreen, but there are two other systems on the options list as well.
