Coimbatore: On the occasion of Pongal festival, a South Indian football tournament is being held at Puliyakulam.
On behalf of Pulyakulam Football Club, a five-a-side football tournament is conducted annually on the occasion of Pongal festival in South India.
This year’s competitions will be held from January 12th till today at Puliakulam St. Anthony’s school ground (Blood Light) in Minnoali. In this, competitions are conducted in 14, 17 years and open categories.
12 teams in the 14 age category, 26 teams in the 17 age category and 32 teams in the open category participated in the competition from regions including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.
In its 14-year-old category, Pride FC, PVFC, Flyer Petes FC, and AVMS qualified for the semi-finals.
In the 17-year-old category, Kolachal FC, Underrated FC, Jappiyar School FC, AVFC, Sweet Rascals FC, Maradona FC, Roan Sports, Majestic Football Academy teams qualified for the quarter finals.
The men’s open division competitions started yesterday. The competition was inaugurated by Reverend Rayappan of Puliyakulam Antoniyar Church.
In the first match, Sindhu Select FC beat First Kick School of Soccer 2-1, Ratnam Kalluri beat Dream FC 8-0 and Aqua Sub beat 3-2 (penalty). ) beat YFSC team too.
