Mutharasan, State Secretary of the Communist Party of India, said in a statement:-
The Pongal gift package that Tamil Nadu government has been giving for the past few years has been announced. The Communist Party of India welcomes the Prime Minister’s announcement that all family card holders will be given one kg of rice, sugar and Rs.1000 cash each through ration shops.
Meanwhile, last year there were 21 items in the gift package including tamarisk, sugar, cardamom, sugarcane and ghee. Disappointing that this year only rice and sugar have been announced. So we urge the government to provide Rs.1000 cash in the Pongal gift package along with the 21 items given last year, including sugarcane, coconut and bunch of turmeric.
