Coimbatore: In Coimbatore district, token for giving Pongal gift package to ration card holders will be issued from today (3rd).
In Coimbatore district, there are 1,403 ration shops. 11 lakh, 37 thousand, 947 cards are in circulation. However, Pongal gift package will be given only to rice card holders.
Thus, 1,089 Sri Lankan Tamil families and 11 lakh, 889 card holders have been counted as eligible. Token will be issued to these cardholders from today (3rd).
Shopkeepers with more than 1,000 cards will be required to deliver 350 tokens per day to cardholders at home. Shoppers below 1,000 cardholders will have to dispense 250 tokens per day.
From the coming 9th to the 12th, an instruction has been given from the district distribution department that the Pongal gift packages should be distributed to the cardholders within four days.
In this regard, District Distribution Officer Sivakumari said, “Per day, 350 people will be given tokens in shops with 1,000 cards and 250 people in shops with less than that. From the 9th, Pongal package and Rs 1,000 cash will be given as announced by the government,” he said.
