CHENNAI: Ration shop workers have complained that the ruling DMK is encroaching on the distribution of Pongal gift package ‘token’ at the homes of ration card holders.

On the occasion of Pongal, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered to give 2.19 crore rice card holders a gift package of Rs 1000 cash, 1 kg of rice sugar and sugarcane each.

Ration will be distributed to the card holders from the 9th.

Dissatisfaction

To avoid crowding of cardholders at the same time, gift packages will be distributed to the store at the rate of 250 per person per day.

For this purpose, the work of providing ‘token’ at the homes of the cardholders containing the date and time to come to the shop started yesterday.

The government has ordered only ration employees to be involved in this work. Accordingly, the token will be distributed till the 8th.

In this case, there have been complaints that the ruling DMK is involved in the distribution of tokens given to card holders by stopping the ration employees. Ration employees are very dissatisfied with this.

Ration employees said:

The DMK representatives and their supporters forcefully buy the take away tokens from us to give to the card holders.

Intimidation

They say they will deliver and send us away.

They threaten them if they refuse to give them the token. We also come and leave in that fear.

Even after complaining about this to the authorities, they are ignoring it because it is the ruling party.

Thus they said.

An official of the Registrar of Co-operative Societies said, ‘Only ration employees should be involved in the task of issuing tokens. Tokens shall not be given to outsiders; Action will be taken against the employees who violate it,’ he said.
