Chennai : Mani Ratnam’s Brahmanda film Ponniyan Selvan has released the song from the first part. The song Ponni Nadi composed by AR Rahman is sung by Rahman, his sister AR Raihanah and Bamba Bakya. Lyrics by Ilango Krishna. The cast members have introduced the character of Vanthiyathevan played by Karthi through the song.
Ponniyan Selvan is presented in two parts. The first part of the film will release in theaters on September 30 this year. There were reports that Amazon Prime has acquired the digital rights of the film. It is reported that Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital rights of both parts of the film. Amazon Prime Video acquired the digital rights of the film for Rs 125 crore.

Ponniyan Selvan is a film produced by Mani Ratnam based on the famous historical novel by the legendary Tamil writer Kalki. Ponniyan considers Selvan to be the greatest historical novel in Tamil. Mani Ratnam brings Kalki’s masterpiece to the big screen with a huge star cast.
Apart from Karthi, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Lal, Rahman, Riaz, Khan, Khishor, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala and many others are lined up in the film. The two-part film is produced by Mani Ratnam’s own Madras Talkies and Leica Productions. AR Rahman is the music director.

Ponniyan Selvan is a novel about the crises, struggles, sacrifices and achievements of the Chola emperor in the 10th century. The film is based on the story of Arulmozhi Varman and the Chola dynasty. The novel is written in five parts.
Films based on the same novel have been tried before. MGR tried to make this film in 1958 but later abandoned the attempt. Poniyin Selvan is a long time project of Mani Ratnam. Efforts to make the film started in 2012, but it was postponed due to financial difficulties.
